Privacy policy
Last updated October 15, 2026
The short version: we collect only what we need to sell you an ebook and deliver it: your email address and what you bought. PayPal handles your payment, so we never see or store your card number. We don’t sell your information, and we don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
This policy explains how Dog-Ear Books (“we”, “us”) handles your personal information when you visit this website or buy from us. If anything here is unclear, email hello@yourdomain.com.
What we collect
| Information | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | At checkout | To deliver your download links and receipt, and to help if something goes wrong with your order. |
| Order details: books, price, date, PayPal order and transaction numbers | When you pay | To deliver your books, keep business and tax records, and handle questions or refunds. |
| Your PayPal email, if you pay with PayPal | When you pay | Sent to us by PayPal with the payment, used to match the payment to your order. |
| Billing country and postal code, if you pay by card | At checkout | Passed straight to PayPal to verify your card. We don’t keep it. |
| Download activity: how many times each link was used | When you download | To limit each link to a set number of downloads and stop sharing of paid files. |
| Technical data such as IP address and browser type | When you visit | Recorded automatically by our hosting providers for security and to keep the site running. |
Card details. Card numbers, expiry dates and security codes are entered into fields provided by PayPal and go directly to PayPal over an encrypted connection. They never pass through or get stored on our systems.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the companies that help us run the store, and only what each one needs:
- PayPal processes all payments, whether you use a PayPal account or a credit or debit card. PayPal’s own privacy statement applies to the information you give them.
- Cloudflare runs the server that creates orders, stores order records and download links in its database, and stores the ebook files.
- Our email provider sends your download links, if email delivery is turned on.
- Our web host serves the pages of this website.
- Google Fonts supplies the typefaces on this site, so your browser connects to Google’s servers when a page loads.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect against fraud. We never sell or rent your personal information, and we don’t share it for anyone else’s advertising.
Cookies and browser storage
We don’t use advertising or analytics cookies. The site saves a few things in your own browser (“local storage”) so it works smoothly:
- the books in your bag, so they’re still there when you come back;
- the email address you typed at checkout, so you don’t have to type it again;
- private links to the order pages for orders you placed on this device, so you can find your downloads again.
This information stays on your device and isn’t sent to us. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings. PayPal may set its own cookies when you pay, to prevent fraud and keep you signed in.
How long we keep it
- Checkouts that were never paid are deleted automatically after 14 days.
- Download links stop working after the number of days shown on your order page (7 days unless we tell you otherwise).
- Records of paid orders are kept so we can answer questions about your purchase and meet tax and accounting rules. We delete them when you ask, unless the law requires us to keep them. PayPal keeps its own transaction history under its own policy.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. Residents of the European Economic Area, the UK and California have these rights by law, and we offer them to every customer. Email hello@yourdomain.com and we’ll reply within 30 days. If you’re in the EEA or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Where the GDPR applies, we use your information because it’s needed to fulfil your order (contract), to meet tax and accounting rules (legal obligation), and to keep the store secure (legitimate interests).
Security
The whole site uses HTTPS. Download links are long random codes that work only a limited number of times and expire. Access to order records is limited to the store owner. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Children
This store is not aimed at children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
International transfers
Our service providers may store and process information in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, they use safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
